3 yr stats, and the cops

Kenize had her 3 yr checkup yesterday..here are her stats

weight: 35lbs 90%
Height: 37in 50%
attitude: sassy

Mackenize is becoming quite the big girl. We finally got her of her crib. (i know...3 yrs old..) She hadn't tried climbing out until about a month ago. (it's been no sleep, and getting of bed 20 times a night since then)

I was debating whether or not I would share this story...but I thought I would so you mother's with little ones may learn...

This past Sunday..Mackenzie decided to wake up before everyone...she is usually pretty good at this..well she woke up before us and decided to take a walk! She usually comes into our room in the morning and tells us that she awake...not today...

I woke up and came downstairs and saw the front door wide open, I thought to myself, maybe the wind blew it open..I put Harper at the table for breakfast (mind you, i figured Mackenzie was still sleeping since she had a late night with fireworks the night before)

I had a feeling that I needed to go check on Kenize..so I went upstairs..and she was gone..not in her bed..MY heart dropped! I immediately started yelling at Jason to wake up...Kenzie is gone and the door is open!

I ran downstairs and out the door barefoot and screaming her name...about 7 houses down..i see a cop car...at his point I'm balling, and shaking, and can barely breath.

I run over and a neighbor (i have no idea who she is) is holding Mackenize. I seriously could not talk! The lady said she had been there about 45 min, she told them her name was Mackenzie Paige Brown, she had a b-day party and she got to do fireworks. OH..and that she was going to grandma's house!

The cop wasn't nice and told me if this happened again, she was gonna file a report...she was a witch! Kenize unlocked the deadbolt..and managed to turn the handle with child locks on. Moral of the story...child locks aren't enough!!! We spent a good amount of time installing deadbolts at the top of all the exit doors on the house, and putting security chimes on the door. Not a fun Sunday,at all. Every time she sees them now she tells me that she wont go outside without mommy or daddy now. When I first saw she wasn't in her room, I really thought someone had taken her, i couldn't be mad at her, but boy did I wanna yell at her. She's 3...3 yr olds have no idea all the horrible things that can happen, her little life flashed before my eyes, I'm just so grateful, the nice neighbor grabbed her and kept her safe...

WOW!! That is so scary!! I am glad she is safe. What a mean cop!! It is not like you just abandoned her outside. It could happen to anyone!! What a sad/scary story. I am not looking forward to the days when Noelle can open doors...!

That is very scarey! Just today I was talking on the phone and I looked out the front window and Evan was outside climbing in the car! After reading your story, I thought that could really happen to us to... or anyone. Evan usually comes in our room in the morning too. Who's to say he wouldn't decide to go wander around outside? I just kept thinking how lucky it was the neighbor found Mackenzie and kept her safe. She could have wandered a lot farther! What a scarey experience!

Mackenzie is such a big girl in so many ways, but you're totally right, they just don't know what could happen. They have no idea of the dangers that lay out their front door, they just know grandma is out there somewhere. It's good the neighbor kept her. Who knows how much further she could have walked in 45 minutes!
